SIGNS OF A FAILING CIRCUIT PANEL THAT NEEDS REPLACING
If you have an older fuse box, you should replace it with a new circuit panel. Fuse boxes haven't been used since the 1960's, and there's no doubt if you're still using one, it's overloaded with all the electronics we've incorporated into our lives over the past 50 years. If your home has an electrical fuse box, you need to upgrade to a circuit panel as soon as possible. Call us for a consultation.
If you already have a circuit panel and suspect it may be in need of replacement, here are some of the signs to look for:
-
Burning smells at or around the panel: This is not a sign you want to ignore. Bad circuit panels are a common cause of house fires and if there are signs of melting, burning or charring, you need to call for professional electrical service right away.
-
Breakers that continually trip: Breakers that trip frequently can be caused by a number issues from bad circuitry to surges. But they can often be traced to a breaker panel that is malfunctioning and no longer operating safely and correctly. Call a professional electrician to inspect your panel to determine if it or something else related is causing your breaker to trip.
-
Unable to reset breaker switches: If you have one or more breaker switches that will not remain reset or trips again within a very short period of time, this strongly indicates a problem with your circuit panel itself. Your safest bet is to have a professional electrician inspect the panel immediately before it causes further damage or even results in an electrical fire.

New Construction or Remodeling
When building a new home, adding another room, or remodeling your existing home, it will likely become necessary to upgrade your service panels or add a new one. Since your existing panels are probably operating at maximum capacity, you might have a choice of adding an additional panel or upgrading the service you have to the existing panel. This will all depend upon available service to the existing panel and how many circuits it can handle in a new panel.
This is where you will need the professional services of a qualified electrician to assist you in these decisions. We can also guide you through the code requirements and any permits you may need.
